Description
For students who are interested in Summer Study abroad, this program is one to look into.  There are two programs offered: Latin American Studies and Spanish as a Second Language, and Biodiversity and Conservation in the Tropics.  Both of these programs offer a wide variety of topics and classes for students to learn.  For the Latin American Studies and Spanish as a Second Language program, students will have the chance to learn more about Latin America through the lens of culture, history, language, politics, economics, myths, prejudices and problems and more.  All very interesting views through which to view Latin America with

The Biodiversity and Conservation Program is one that uses Costa Rica as an example, but also compares its Biodiversity and Conservation efforts to other countries around the globe.  There will be lectures from invited lecturers, readings, and field trips that will take you to areas to learn more about Costa Rica's Biodiversity and Conservation efforts first hand.  Both of the programs here are wonderful opportunities for students looking to learn in another country, and to make incredible memories along the way.


Location
Located in San José, Costa Rica, it is an absolutely beautiful destination to head to.  As the Capital city and largest city in Costa Rica, it is home to many historical areas, museums, and plenty of nature for people to see.  It is one of the fastest growing cities in the world, and is known for its high quality of life.

Requirements

Cost

Biodiversity and Conservation in the Tropics Program Cost: $3500 
Includes:
  • Tuition Fees, 4 guided Tours, 2 optional activities on Friday Afternoons, 2 field trips over the Weekend, and Homestays with Costa Rican Families.
    • ​The Homestay includes Breakfast and dinner on weekdays and 2 meals on the weekend, and Laundry service is included
  • This Cost does Not include Plane tickets, mandatory health insurance, meals other than the ones specified, or transportation to and from the airport
​Latin American Culture and Spanish as a Second Language Program Cost: $2,500
Includes:
  • Tuition Fees, 4 guided Tours(Lunch Included), 2 optional activities on Friday Afternoons, and Homestays with Costa Rican Families.
    • ​The Homestay includes Breakfast and dinner on weekdays and 2 meals on the weekend, and Laundry service is included
  • ​This Cost does Not include Plane tickets, mandatory health insurance, meals other than the ones specified, or transportation to and from the airport
Scholarships
For students studying abroad, several scholarships can be applied to the cost of a direct enrollment semester study abroad.  However, there may be some scholarships that you are not quite sure about and special conditions usually apply to summer study abroad costs.  In those cases, please direct all of your questions to Amy Collins collinsa@etsu.edu in financial aid.  She will be more than happy to help!
