Global Health Outreach | APPE 7038
Course Description
The Global Health Outreach Elective Rotation is an advanced pharmacy practice elective for P4 students. This elective rotation exposes students to pharmacy-related opportunities in non-traditional settings focused on an indigent population. The student will provide pharmaceutical care to patients at an interprofessional healthcare clinic, as well as, serve as a drug information consultant to other healthcare professionals. The calendar month APPE will consist of 1-2 weeks of international travel to serve an indigent population in a different country. The balance of rotational time will be spent in local indigent care/service settings as well as in preparation and planning for international travel. This preparation/planning will consist of meetings, presentations, projects, and small group discussions. The preparation for this APPE will begin prior to the month of travel.
Course Mission
The mission of this elective experience is to expose students to populations in which barriers to healthcare exist and learn how pharmacists can assist to overcome these barriers. Also, this experience will allow students to obtain a global perspective on healthcare and overall quality of life while developing an appreciation for other cultures.
